Statistics for 2006

We assisted in the spay/neuter of 470 cats and 98 dogs in 2006.We did this through a low income voucher program and our feral cat program.

Income

Our income is derived from fundraisers, grant awards, membership dues, and donations from pet lovers in Rutherford County who want to make our programs successful.

This year we held our Annual Golf Tournament at Cleghorn Country Club. We worked at festivals in Spindale, Rutherfordton, and Lake Lure as well as at the Hickory Nut Gorge Olympiad. We made money through pet banks, tee shirt sales, Santa Paws photos, and our annual fall raffle. These fundraisers netted us $6,124.

Our membership dues brought in $3,745 and donations throughout the year amounted to $11,411.

We received grant money totaling $14,500. A special thanks goes to our local foundations for their support. These groups are:

Do the math! The Rutherford County Humane Society took in $35,770 this year and expended $31,206 directly into spay/neuter/rabies assistance. We continue to have operating costs to maintain our adoption center and we still have hopes of someday owning our adoption facility. But we are proud of the fact that the Rutherford County Humane Society has been on the front lines in helping to reduce the pet population in our county. We are proud of the statistics that show our Animal Control facility is taking in and destroying a smaller number of pets each year. However, none of us can be satisfied until Rutherford County is no longer destroying healthy, adoptable animals whose only fault is that they are in need of a loving home.
