In late March and early April there was a reversal of the policy at Forest City Housing concerning our colony of TNR’ed cats that had lived there, being fed by several caregivers who received regular cat food donations from Humane Society volunteers. Before we were aware of it, most of the cats had been trapped and taken to the pound. We had been told about a calico that had recently come to Forest City Housing and was not “fixed” and was probably pregnant. We trapped her and took her to Rutherford Veterinary Hospital. From a cursory look into the carrier Dr. Toms guessed she was about two weeks away from giving birth. Since she was a feral cat with nowhere to go, we made the decision to have her spayed the next day. During the night Sparkle delivered four kittens.
Twinkle was one of the kittens born on April 23rd at the Rutherford Veterinary Hospital. In June, she was placed in a Foster Home. Shortly thereafter, she got adopted through our website to a home in Asheville. Her new “mommie” writes that Twinkle is doing great and growing fast. "She is the best company I could ask for, mostly well behaved … except for her penchant for walking across my keyboard :-) and super-affectionate (loves kneading my hair while purring into my ears, licks my face to wake me up, naps curled under my chin or on my chest.) I couldn't imagine not having her... I would be so lonely without my buddy."
Our website and Petfinders.com have been very successful in linking our adoptable cats and dogs to new forever homes. Until the day comes when there are no more homeless pets, we will keep posting these priceless adoptable companions.
