Rescue on the Bypass

Chichuahua

During the month of February some of you may have seen a lame Chihuahua mix dog running along the Highway 74 Bypass, from Central High Hill all the way to Tri-City Mall. You may have seen him cross the busy traffic lanes from Wal-Mart to Lowe’s. You will be happy to know on March 8 he found a safe and loving home with a forever family.

Several people had been trying to rescue him. We got a call for help from a lady who had been following him, looking for him, and trying to feed him. We met her off the highway and were about to set up our trap down in the woods when a car stopped beside us and the driver asked what we were trapping. He told us the little dog had been coming by his house for food and was up in his garage at the present time. We were incredulous at the timing of his driving past us. He would not turn his car around and take us to his house, but he told us how to get there and where to look for the dog. It was not in a garage, but a carport; and we could not imagine how we would be able to catch the dog who had been eluding people so successfully for the past month. He was sleeping under a table with a wall behind him and boxes on either side. He would have had to run toward us to get away. He chose not to. He was “in arms” in about five minutes of our arrival. He was at the vet’s office fifteen minutes later. His leg injury is so old that he will probably never have full use of that leg. He is so thin that he will have to wait about a month to be neutered. His skin has suffered from exposure but will heal in time. He is ONE HAPPY LITTLE DOG

Update, July 10, 2008

Hi,

Hope all is well. I just wanted to give you a quick update on Riley. I took him to the vet for shots and he has gained over two pounds. Dr. Pam said "that's enough". I have now cut back his food. He also has regained all of the muscle mass in his bad hind leg. She could not tell the difference between the two of them. He does not hold his leg up at all and can now scratch his head if he wants. Must be the good food and vitamins ( along with a lot of love). I found he is terrified of storms and even a slight bit of rain. I now have medication for him if he gets too bad. He continues to be a precious "little man".

Just thought I would touch base and let you know how he is.

Pam
