Janie’s saga (or Jane Doe as she was known) began with a hit and run. She was picked up by a good Samaritan. This lady did not know how badly the little wire haired Jack Russell terrier was injured and contacted the Humane Society for help. Helen Jones made a call to Dr. Michelle Toms-Greene at Rutherford Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Michelle immediately said to bring her in. Dr. Pam Poteat determined that Janie’s right hind leg was so badly injured that it could not be saved and had to be amputated. No one came forth to claim Janie and she recuperated at the hospital. She became a favorite because of her spunk and determination. She was able to get around on three legs and did not seem to notice that she was missing one! During her recovery period she had numerous visitors and all got a tail wag and kiss. The question of a permanent home was on everyone’s mind. One of our members told Janie’s story to some friends of hers. They had already rescued 6 dogs on their own and said they did not need another one, but they were curious and went to see her. That was all it took! At first they took Janie home on a “trial basis” to see if she would get along with their other dogs. Next thing we knew, they had renamed her “Jamie” and he said “this dog is not going anywhere, she is here to stay”! Jamie is now an indoor dog, queen of the roost and sleeps on her new dad’s chest at night and jumps on his lap whenever he sits down. She goes out with the other dogs to play and has settled in to a life of luxury. If they do have to go out of town, all of the dogs are boarded with Theresa at Mountain View Kennels. Needless to say Theresa has also fallen in love with Jaimie! A good ending for such a tragic beginning!
