Lost and Found Pets - Anna’s Story
One day in early April Monica Geyer’s parents returned to their home on Maple Creek Road to find a large dog who was obviously lost and a small dog DEAD. They called their daughter Monica in Lake Lure and she agreed to keep the big dog at her home until she could find the owners. She named the dog Anna. Monica made FOUND DOG posters and also asked the Humane Society to advertise. We posted Anna’s picture on our website on April 11.
On May 14 we received this email from Monica:
After 5 weeks, I had given up on finding Anna's owner. Some guys from Leighty Tree Service had been clearing trees on my road and one of them, Andy Leighty, had fallen for Anna. On Friday afternoon, he brought his wife, Ashley, over to meet her and see if she wanted to take Anna home. They have about an acre fenced in and wanted a friend for their chocolate lab. They took her home Friday evening. Then not half an hour after they left, I got a call from a woman who said her husband had just seen my Found Dog poster. She said Anna was her dog. She told me she had lost three dogs. She got one back that had been turned in to the pound - a husky. She also described the other dog that had been with Anna that had died in my parents‘ yard. So I called Ashley and told her Anna's real family had been found, and we got Anna to her real family that evening. Then, about two hours after I had dropped Anna off with her real family, they called me to say that as soon as they got Anna home, she ran off again with their other dog. The dogs came back on their own, but the people said that if Ashley and Andy still wanted Anna, that might be a better place for her to live. Anna was back at the Leighty's by Sunday. Looks like everything worked out ok. Thanks for all your help! Monica
